With the massive number of layoffs and unemployed people, a work at home affiliate marketing business has become very attractive to thousands of people.

The short answer is, yes. A work at home affiliate marketing business is a very viable source of income and anybody can do it provided they follow some simple rules and select a high converting affiliate program.

Some people believe that it’s a get rich quick scheme or something they can simply plug in to succeed overnight.

This is simply not the case, in order to succeed with a work at home affiliate marketing business, one must dedicate themselves to learning the correct processes.

You can have limited success without a website of your own, a hosting service, or autoresponder, but as stated, it will be limited success and more than likely not long-term.

In order for long-term success, a person should have all three of the mentioned items.

A work at home affiliate marketing business starts out by selecting an affiliate program to promote. The affiliate programs you promote can be selected from Clickbank, commission Junction, Amazon, or many other affiliate sponsoring programs.

These days you can find almost any product has an affiliate program associated to it. This is because the product owner instantly gains an army of Sales Associates to promote their product and extend their reach immensely.

The benefits of having affiliates promoting products are huge and only require that the product owner give a portion of the profits to the affiliates as they make sales.

Many people believe that as an affiliate, they simply select a program to promote and send traffic to that website to make the sales and earn their commission. While this works to some degree, it is not the correct way to build a successful work at home affiliate marketing business.

The reason for this, as successful affiliate marketers have learned, is most people do not make a purchase on their first visit to a website. In most cases it takes multiple exposures to an offer before a sale is made. The acceptable estimate is 5 to 7 exposures to an offer before a sale is ever made.

This means in order to be the most successful as an affiliate marketer you do need all three, a website, some sort of hosting service and an autoresponder.

Once you select a product to promote from an affiliate sponsoring programs such as Clickbank, you should also create a website giving a review of the product using the research you’ve performed.

And yes, you should research the product very thoroughly and give an honest opinion with your review.

You can build your website on a free hosting service, such as WordPress, blogger, Squidoo or through many other hosting services including one that you may have purchased. Word press, blogger and Squidoo are free services you can use to host your website and allow you to build multiple web pages.

But you should be able to include a subscriber forms on your website to capture names and e-mail addresses, some sites will not allow you to add subscriber forms. This way you can follow up with your subscribers through sequential emails from your autoresponder, giving them the benefits of the program your promoting and how it can help them.

Once your website is up on one of the hosted services and your subscriber forms installed, you simply need to drive traffic to that webpage. Then you let your autoresponder deliver your follow-up messages automatically and if your emails are well written, they can close the sale for you within 5 – 7 follow ups.

These are the basic steps to succeed with a work at home affiliate marketing business, as you can see it is not a get rich quick scheme and does require some work and planning.
